Traditional Chinese Medicine for Corona Virus

Do you have an inclusive plan to protect yourself from coronavirus?

As corona virus sweeps the world, it is crucial that we take various measures to protect ourself and families from this deadly virus.

Many scientific studies have been done on how herbs can prevent and treat SARS and coronavirus. Studies on Herbs for Coronavirus.  Throughout this site you will find many credible sources that I have referenced on how herbs can assist in inhibiting coronavirus infections.

Herbal medicines should be a part of the protective measures we take, as they can benefit us in several ways.

Who am I?  I am a doctor of Chinese medicine, with specialities in acupuncture and herbal medicine.  I have over 20 years of experience, and have studied in many university hospitals in China.  I work with some of the finest herbal medicine doctors and pharmacists in the world.

I have access to doctors reports coming out of China on corona virus, and am up to date on the best herbs for COVID-19.
As doctors of Chinese Medicine we are very pro-active about using the best herbs for all stages of COVID-19 infection
3 Primary Considerations
1. Using Herbs to Modulate your Immune System and Defenses
2. Using Herbs Accurately
3. Stages of Treatment
Let's Examine These in Greater Detail
Avoiding Coronavirus infection by Using Herbs to Boost and Modulate your immune System

Stage 1: Immune Support to Block Infection

One of the strengths of using Chinese medicine and herbs to inhibit coronavirus is that we take a very detailed approach.  The doctors in China at the front line of treating coronavirus have identified four stages we need to consider.

Stage 1: Inhibition of Infection By Using Immune Supporting Herbs

Stage 2: Early Stage Infection

Stage 3: Late Stage Infection

Stage 4: Recovery Phase

To block the virus from causing an infection, I recommend a formula called Yu Ping Feng San.  This formula contains herbs to modulate the immune system including Astragalus, Atractylodes, Siler, and more.

The Yu Ping Feng San herbal formula improves immune function to stop infection from occurring, it can be use by people who are immunocompromised or asymptomatic.

Below is the title of a research article on Astragalus (Huang qi), which is the key herb in the immune boosting formulas.

A Systematic Review of Phytochemistry, Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics on Astragali Radix: Implications for Astragali Radix as a Personalized Medicine

The above research article discusses several of the substance found in Astragali, which is one of the main herbs in the immune boosting formulas.  It examines how this herb stimulates the immune system, acts as an anti-oxidant, and is anti-inflammatory.  The research was published in the International Journal of Molecular Science.

If an infection does occur, we can understand it according to two phases.

Different herbs are required when Symptoms occur.

Stage 2: Early Stage of Corona Virus Infection

Some of the early stage symptoms are sore throat, high fever, and dry cough.

At this first stage of infection we want to use a famous formula called Yin Qiao San / Lonicera Complex.  This herbal formula contains Forysithia, Lonicera, Burdock seed, Licorice root, and many other ingredients. It is to be taken during the initial days of symptoms that include high fever and sore throat.

These herbs may also be taken with the immune modulating herbs to help prevent infection.  Hospital and research staff in China would take the immune boosting herbs, with formulas like Yin Qiao San, Lonicera Complex, and Sang Ju Yin.

Some hospitals reported zero infections when staff were taking these formulas. (1,2)

In many cases these herbs will stop the infection from preceding to the next stage.

Stage 3 of the Infection - Late Stage Infection and Pneumonia

If the corona infection proceeds further, we will need to take more aggressive measures and use herbs appropriate for a stage 3 infection.  This stage is typically marked by symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest congestion, mucus, phlegm, and fluids in the lungs.  At this stage you will need to go to the hospital.  However, since medical care may be limited, it may be prudent to arm yourself with the best of what we have to offer.

At this stage the infection has become critical and pneumonia is developing.  Breathing will become difficult as fluid and mucus fill the lungs.  It is crucial to get medical care at this time, and the herbs should continue to be a part of treatment.  In China herbs were used with Western medications such as hydroxycloroquine.

Should pneumonia develop it is critical to see a doctor, and a ventilator may be required.  However, it is also essential to be prepared with the appropriate herbal medicines.
