When the brain is in an alpha or theta state many healing effects can occur. Stress is reduced, the immune system is benefited, memory and concentration improve and relaxation occurs. It is also believed that cellular regeneration occurs when the brain is in an alpha or theta state. In addition, sleep is improved and one's overall level of happiness and well-being increase as a result of spending time in these states.
In many systems of mind-body medicine one's beliefs and emotions are examined in the context of healing. For example, if one is over-ridden with negative beliefs or emotions this will strongly affect one's psychology and body. By allowing our emotions the space they need for expression and healing, many positive results can occur when we are aware and present for our emotions. |

Through examining our belief systems in a conscious and reflective way, we can re-program beliefs that no longer serve us and replace them with life-enhancing beliefs and values. Since our belief systems determine our reality they affect our bodies, perceptions, and attitude. By releasing limiting beliefs we are able to expand and open the mind to a state that is receptive and available for healing.
Through mind-body exercises like tai chi, yoga, and qi kung one can develop a greater and more profound relationship with one's body. When we are more aware of the body, and less identified with the over-thinking mind, we will naturally make better health choices. Having a greater awareness of the body naturally translates into mind-body healing.
Through working with mind-body techniques like hypnosis, visualizations, and imagery we can strongly affect our subconscious mind. By cultivating positive images we are directing our mind to positive outcomes. Visualizations can be used for meditation, clearing the subconscious of negativity, and for cultivating positive belief systems.
